Theme:
Holy Spirit
Title:
Getting to know the Holy Spirit as a person
Desired Outcomes:
The aim of this uGroup is to get your members to understand that the Holy Spirit as part of the trinity is also a person, and by excluding the Holy Spirit we make the trinity a duality
Core Scriptures:
John 14:16-17
16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [a]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
Welcome:
Any fun and welcoming Icebreaker that gets the members moving, on their feet, where all the members can participate in. If there are new members be careful not to create a space where they feel exposed or uncomfortable.
Word:
The uGroup leader must develop his own revelation and substance around the word and core scripture. This will simply be a guide for him/her with some thought points.
Take the scriptures mentioned below and make it relevant to your daily life elaborate on these specific scriptures and make it personal by using examples in your own life.
Introduce the message by asking the group the following:
Who or what is the Holy Spirit? – give each member time to explain the way they see the Holy Spirit to give you an idea of what will follow next.
What does the Bible say about the identity of the Holy Spirit?
Discussion points:
When or how do we receive the Holy Spirit?
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit happens at the moment of Salvation, the filling of the Spirit is an ongoing process in a Christians life as in Acts 2:38-39
We receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon us as in Acts 1:8
Acts 2:15-17 is also a good scripture that you can use to meditate on in the group
Is the Holy Spirit a person?
Here are some scriptures that shows as that the Holy Spirit is a divine person:
1 Corinthians 2:10
He seeks out the truth in everything, through the Holy Spirit we are able to see the things that God wants to reveal to us: He has an intellectual capacity to think
Ephesians 4:30
The Holy Spirit can be grieved (feel intense sorrow)
Romans 8:26-27
The Holy Spirit prays for us (intersession)
1 Corinthians 12:7-11
A will to choose these attributes are consistent with person-hood. Therefore, we see that the characteristics ascribed to the Holy Spirit - thought, feelings, choice - are attributes of a person.
John 14:16
And he helps us and abides with us - he teaches us all things and helps us to remember the things that we have already meditated on
John 15:26
The spirit testifies of Jesus
Why does God place the Holy Spirit in each of His people?
Through the Spirit the power of God lives in every child of God. The Spirit works through Gods children by inspiring and prompting their actions and spoken words.
“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”
Romans 8:16 NKJV
When you understand the significance of having the Spirit abiding within you, you will have no doubt about His miracle-working power

- The Spirit also performs the acts of a person.
- The Holy Spirit is treated as a person.
- The Holy Spirit is God, and therefore, by nature is personal.
You can finish the uGroup with this scripture
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
John 16:13 NKJV
Other Pointer Ideas:
It’s important to keep the conversation going but bring it back to the word when they give their opinion. Make sure that your members don’t feel attacked if you have a lot of new members that don’t believe in the Holy Spirit it is important to show God’s goodness to them as that will lead them to repentance.
