Theme:
Discipleship
Title:
Being with Jesus
Desired Outcomes:
This uGroup message is focused on leading others to a more intimate relationship with Jesus, focusing more on Him than the signs, miracles, and wonders and through it to quicken the desire for those around you to seek Jesus as well.
Core Scripture:
- Acts 4:13
Welcome:
Any fun and welcoming Icebreaker that gets the members moving, on their feet, where all the members can participate in. If there are new members be careful not to create a space where they feel exposed or uncomfortable.
Word:
- Often times the only scripture about discipleship that can be recalled is the great commission that speaks more of the mandate of a disciple than becoming one.
- The uGroup leader must emphasize the practical difference between a disciple and a Christian even though theoretically it is the same.
- The uGroup leader must be well acquainted with the difference between working from the cross and not towards it.
The following could be relevant questions to ask:
- Do you think there’s a difference between a disciple and a Christian?
- What should a disciple look like?
- Do you think that it is only for people who stand in the traditional sense of the word “ministry” to be considered as disciples?
- Do you consider yourself to be a disciple?
- What would you say is the first requirement of becoming a disciple?
- Matt 16:24 - What about the scripture tells you something about being a disciple?
- Often times, when reading such scripture, we look towards the cost when the very first requirement of becoming or making disciples is having a desire to follow Jesus.
- Mark 3:14 - Jesus first appointed them to be with Him and then that they may preach
- Is your desire to have to say something or to be with Jesus who gives you something to say
- Mark 16:17 - Are you to follow signs or are signs to follow you
- Acts 4:13 - What was the outflow of Peter and Johns boldness
- What can stop you if your desires for Jesus is bigger than your desire for anything else?
It would be good to briefly talk about them asking God to restore their desire before entering into worship.
