Theme:
Purpose
Title:
Identity
Desired Outcomes:
The aim of this uGroup is to help members understand that we are all unique and made with different purposes/talents/gifts. We find our identity in God, the one who created us.
Core Scriptures:
Romans 12:6
Genesis 1:26
Welcome:
Any fun and welcoming Icebreaker that gets the members moving, on their feet, where all the members can participate in. If there are new members be careful not to create a space where they feel exposed or uncomfortable.
Word:
The uGroup leader must develop his own revelation and substance around the word this will guide him/her with some thought points.
Start with this example:
- If you drive a BMW and you have to take it for a service. Where would you take it? To Toyota? VW? Mercedez?
When we want to know what’s wrong with our car, or if we want to know everything the car is capable of we go to the manufacturer. The one that put the car together. God is the one that formed us/put us together. (Ps 139:13, Is 44:24, Gen 2:7)
To know my purpose or calling I need to go to God, the one that created me. The one that put the talents/gifts inside of me. (James 1:5). Things can never give us true identity. Things only cover up our brokenness, lack of true identity and purpose.
A Ferrari was never meant to be driven on a farm and a Toyota pickup was also not made for a race track. We need to stay in our own lanes. My lane is determined by God.
When we try and look to people for answers or try to look like someone else or do what they do we will end up being frustrated/angry/depressed/unsatisfied.
The pickup was never meant to be the fastest car, but to be able to endure rough terrains. If I try to do what someone else does well, I will always fail or be unsatisfied. Never reach my potential of the thing God placed inside of me.
We need to run to God for our answers, we need to find who we are in Him. Comparison will never lead you to your own full potential.
Other Pointer Ideas:
The devil always try to convince us that others are better than us, where God created you to be the best in something else. He makes you think if you are not doing this or this then you are not really doing a good job or you’re not a good Christian. He tells you if you don’t look like these people you’ll never be accepted. But God made you and you are perfectly in place.
Knowing who you are in Christ will also enable you to overcome many obstacles in life.
