Purpose
Title:
God is Calling You
Desired Outcomes:
The aim of this uGroup is to help members believe that God has called them and there is more in them than meets the eye.
Core Scriptures:
- 1 Samuel 16
- Genesis 1
- 1 Kings 19:19-21
Welcome:
Any fun and welcoming Icebreaker that gets the members moving, on their feet, where all the members can participate in. If there are new members be careful not to create a space where they feel exposed or uncomfortable.
Word:
Introduce the message by asking the following question
- "Do you believe that God has called you, but it doesn't always feel like it?" - things are going wrong, I'm not good enough, feels like God can't forgive me, don't feel worthy. Motivate the members to apply the question to their own lives. Talk about it in the uGroup.
The following argument can be used to explain that God has called you:
Read 1 Samuel 16 and explain:
God made sure that David was anointed. For David was looked over, he was not even in the room. But God brought the room to him. God was calling him to be the king and if people don't invite you into the room God will bring the room to you. God will not allow people to influence what He called you to be. In your mother's womb, He knew you and placed a call on your life.
Read Genesis 1- God spoke everything into existence and it was good:
In the bible, there are so many scriptures God spoke over you and it will come into existence and it will be good. Most of the time we lack in believing those scriptures but it can be good in your life as good as it was in Genesis when created everything and everything was good. How many good things do we miss out on because we don't believe the word God has spoken and believed it can be good in my life.
Read 1 Kings 19:19-21 The Call of Elisha:
Just like Elijah called Elisha to follow him, Jesus is calling you to follow. With every call, there must be a response. What is your response when God is calling you to follow him? Are you following him only on Sunday's or are you following Him every day. For God is a jealous God, He doesn't want you just on Sunday's, He wants all of you just like he has given you all of Him.
Take some time to find scriptures that counter the falsehoods we believe about ourselves and what other people tell us, talk about it in the uGroup. If members aren't open to talking about their issues, use examples, and tell them to help you find scripture to counter what God says and what will do for them.
You might consider some of the following verses:
- Ephesians 1:4 - "He chose us"
- Ephesians 2:10 - "We are God's handiwork"
- Mark 8:34 - "Take up your cross"
- John 8:12 - "You will walk in the light"
- Deuteronomy 31:8 - "He will never leave you"
- Deuteronomy 5:33 - "You will prosper"
Consider explaining that God chose us:
(Ephesians 1:4), and explain, that God chose us regardless of what we will do wrong or the sin we will commit. God will still choose us.
Consider explaining that we are God's handiwork:
(Ephesians 2:10) He made you exactly how He wanted you to be. You are not a mistake. He made you and it is Good
Consider explaining that you will prosper (Deuteronomy 5:33) when you walk in obedience with God and prolong your days.
